Luke Barber interviews Martin Herskovitz. Herskovitz, from Rehovot, Israel, is a child of Holocaust survivors. He is a public fellow at Finkler Institute for Holocaust Studies Bar Ilan University and a poet. Via his poetry and his endeavor “Creating Memory”, he propounds a more personal and emotionally resonant approach to Holocaust remembrance. His book “Son of the Shoah” was published in Summer 2025 by McFarland Publishers. His poems represent a new language of memory that describes, not the desolation and destruction, but rather the possibility of grieving, of finding compassion and healing.
