Affiliation Process
The Faculty Advisory Board (FAB) established this designation in 2016 to strengthen collaboration across campus and to build a vibrant, interdisciplinary community engaged in Judaic, Holocaust, Genocide, and Peace Studies.
How to Apply
Faculty interested in becoming affiliate faculty are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Center’s work and mission. Applications may be submitted at any time, and should include:
- An up-to-date curriculum vitae highlighting research, programming, teaching, or service connected to Judaic, Holocaust, Genocide, or Peace Studies.
- A cover letter explaining how the applicant’s work supports the Center’s mission. This letter may discuss past and current activities as well as upcoming projects or plans.
Eligibility
Faculty may make a case for affiliate faculty status by meeting at least one of the following criteria:
- Program Development or Participation: Organizing or contributing to seminars, workshops, institutes, or academic programs that advance Judaic, Holocaust, Genocide, or Peace Studies—whether locally, nationally, or internationally.
- Academic Training: Holding a graduate degree or completing significant graduate coursework in related fields.
- Scholarly or Creative Work: Producing research, publications, performances, exhibitions, or other creative or scholarly work in relevant areas.
- Professional Engagement: Active involvement in disciplinary or interdisciplinary organizations, such as the Association for Jewish Studies, the NC Council on the Holocaust, or the International Association of Genocide Scholars.
Review Process
Completed applications are reviewed by the Faculty Advisory Board. A minimum of five FAB members, including the Center director, must participate in the vote. Affiliate status is granted with a simple majority approval.
Maintaining Affiliate Faculty Status
To remain active, affiliate faculty are asked to submit an updated CV and cover letter every four years addressing their continued engagement with the Center’s mission.
Submissions
Applications for appointment or renewal should be submitted to the Director of the Center for Judaic, Holocaust, and Peace Studies.
